THE Creative Process
A transparent look at the experiment behind the world’s first all-queer virtual K-pop girl group
A New Kind of Pop Project
Past Mirea began as an experimental project from Mirea Music, an independent label in San Francisco.
The question:
Can people form connections and express fandom for artists who don’t physically exist?
From that idea came Past Mirea - a virtual K-pop girl group built entirely with generative artificial intelligence platforms.
Every part of their world (lyrics, vocals, music, visuals, and personalities) was created through these tools using human creative direction and guidance. The result is a fully digital group that still hopefully tells stories of love, loss, and identity.
Why This Experimental Project Exists
The project is rooted in the principle of abundance thinking - the belief that creativity and meaning are not limited resources. Instead of viewing new technologies as a threat to musicians, Past Mirea envisions a world where different kinds of musical canvases can co-exist, thus expanding and re-imagining art and fandom.
The goal is not to replace artists, but to explore what happens when technology becomes part of the creative relationship between an aspiring technological artist and their audience.
Can we still feel moved, inspired, or seen — even when the subjects are virtual?
How It Was Made
Past Mirea’s creation combined several artificial-intelligence engines with human guidance and curation:
Lyrics and songwriting: Lyric and song conceptualizations by Mirea Music. Lyrics and song structure created using generative AI guided by prompts written by Mirea Music.
Vocals and Vocal performance & Music composition and production: Built with a music oriented generative, AI-based composition engine guided by prompts written by Mirea Music. Vocal and instrument arrangement by Mirea Music.
Visual identity and likenesses: Each member (Jesse (Park Ji-Soo), Lexi (Rexi Jung), Cori (Cho So-Hee), and Anna (Han Anna) was generated using AI image-creation engines with prompts by Mirea Music.
Transparency and Ethics
Mirea Music is fully transparent about Past Mirea’s creation process. Every voice, lyric, and image you experience was generated through artificial-intelligence platforms and guided using human artistic intent.
This openness is intentional. It is part of the social experiment: to see whether candidness about AI use changes how people engage with music, and whether art or music made in the digital realm can still stir the soul.
Queer (LGBTQ+) Representation
Past Mirea is also designed to fill a space that remains rare in K-pop — queer, all-female representation.
Each member’s identity, vocal tone, and narrative were written to celebrate inclusivity and emotional depth. The project aims to show that diversity in pop does not only belong to the digital world - it should be in the physical one too.
An Invitation
Past Mirea invites listeners, fans, and skeptics alike to join and support this experimental project.
Stream the music. Experience the beats, the instruments and the positive messages.
If emotion and connection are the heart of fandom, then perhaps technology can be a full canvas.
