Mirea Music Announces Past Mirea: A Queer Virtual Pop Girl Group
A social experiment testing how virtual artists evoke emotion and fandom
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (October 2025) — Independent label Mirea Music has unveiled Past Mirea, a groundbreaking all-queer virtual Korean-American pop girl group created entirely using generative artificial intelligence. The project blends pop songwriting, narrative storytelling, and visual design to explore a central question: Can people form musical connections with virtual artists and become fans of their affectations?
Each member of Past Mirea (Jesse (Park Ji-Sa), Lexi (Rexi Jung), Cori (Cho Ha Rie), and Anna (Han Anna)) is a fully digital persona whose likeness was generated through image-creation engines.
This project is a transparent social experiment as Mirea Music openly discloses every aspect of Past Mirea - its songs, lyrics, vocals, instruments, and member likenesses - have been created using generative artificial intelligence platforms. The project’s intent is not deception, but of discovery: to test whether new technologies can evoke emotion, empathy, and fandom.
“Past Mirea is not intended to replace musicians, their music, or their fandom. Based on the tenets of abundance thinking, it is about exploring where creativity, technology, identity, and fandom intersect—and seeing whether people can still engage positively when everything they see and hear is generated,” said Mirea Music representative Rynelle Alara. “There is also an opportunity to create the first all-queer female Korean-American pop (KA-pop) group because LGBTQ+ representation in normal K-pop is still quite rare.”
Each Past Mirea release explores queer identity, love, and self-reflection through a pop lens. Their songs blend K-pop aesthetics with storytelling, weaving nostalgia and longing through a future-facing medium.
“Whether listeners are drawn to the sound, the vocals, the beats or the idea itself, Past Mirea invites people to reflect on what makes music meaningful,” said Alara. “If emotion and connection are the heart of fandom, then perhaps technology can be a full canvas.”
Past Mirea’s inaugural album, Light Carried Forward, and singles are available now on Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, and YouTube, inviting listeners worldwide to take part in this social experiment - and perhaps, inspire greater queer representation in real life. Educators and facilitators guides are also available on their website for those leading these discussions in classes or professionally.
